Applied Technology & Management, Inc. Names Mike Jenkins, Ph.D., P.E. to Lead Coastal Engineering Services

Gainesville, Florida - Applied Technology & Management, Inc. (ATM) is pleased to welcome Mike Jenkins, Ph.D., P.E. as the new head of ATM’s coastal engineering team. In this capacity, Dr. Jenkins will be responsible for oversight of all ATM coastal projects, both in the United States and internationally. Dr. Jenkins replaces former ATM coastal team leader Michael Barnett, who left the firm in November 2003 to serve as bureau chief for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Bureau of Beaches and Coastal Systems.

“ATM is now in prime position to expand our coastal capabilities,” said Tom Schanze, president and CEO of ATM, speaking of Jenkins’ arrival. With his combined education and experience in coastal engineering, Schanze says, Dr. Jenkins is the perfect candidate to lead ATM’s coastal team. “Under Mike’s direction, ATM will continue its role as a leading provider of coastal engineering services, and our clients will receive the excellent support they have come to expect.”

Jenkins joins the firm with an extensive background in coastal engineering. His professional consulting engineering experience includes numerous projects in the fields of beach nourishment, coastal erosion, sediment transport, inlet management studies, flood control, and environmental restoration. Jenkins’ coastal projects extend along the Atlantic coast from Massachusetts to Florida, and along the Gulf of Mexico coast from Florida to Louisiana. Jenkins is intimately familiar with the regulatory processes throughout Florida and the southeast, and has an impressive resume of successful project management and permit consultation experience.

Jenkins, a registered professional engineer in Florida, earned his B.S. in ocean engineering from Florida Atlantic University, and his Ph.D. in ocean engineering from Florida Institute of Technology, where his doctoral dissertation focused on the interaction of waves, sediment transport, and inlet shoals and tidal dynamics. Jenkins is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Florida Shore and Beach Preservation Association. Jenkins will work in ATM’s West Palm Beach office beginning March 1st.
