Tender Design Alternatives at Sohar Port

Project Description: Sohar Port’s strategic position outside the Strait of Hormuz makes it one of the most important deepwater gateways between the Gulf, India, China and Europe, handling over a million tonnes of cargo every week and serving the world’s largest dry bulk carriers. The East Development expansion called for a 1,000-metre multipurpose quay wall—retaining some 23 metres to a water depth of –18.0 metres CD—with provisions to extend up to 2,000 metres in future phases. Etermar engaged ATM to develop an alternative tender design based on a caisson quay wall solution, offering a technically robust and commercially competitive approach for the full 1,000-metre berth and its transition structures. ATM’s role included data collection and review, caisson quay wall design, northern piled-platform transition, southern transition, scour protection and revetment, apron utility provisions for firefighting, stormwater and dry utilities, and crane and quay furniture design. Our role also included a technical note explaining the tender design, tender drawings and the bill of quantities.
