Steve Peene, PhD, (Florida) and Bob Burleson, PE, (South Carolina) contributed to this year’s Southeast Stormwater Association (SESWA) Annual Regional Stormwater Conference by serving on various committees. The conference will be held in Hilton Head, South Carolina, October 4 through October 6, 2023.

Steve is a Senior Principal Water Resources Expert with ATM, a Geosyntec Company. He is a SESWA board member and chairs its policy committee. With more than 33 years of experience focused on water resources, he conducts water resources analyses including sea-level rise and coastal-surge modeling, watershed planning, and stormwater management planning. In addition, Steve facilitates NPDES MS4 permitting, evaluates nonpoint- and point-source pollution in surface-water systems, and conducts hydrologic, hydrodynamic, sediment transport, and water quality modeling. He also evaluates ecological impacts to surface waters and designs and implements surface-water monitoring and restoration projects.

Bob is a Senior Professional Water Resources Engineer with ATM and serves on the SESWA communications committee. He has more 36 years of experience focused on water resources engineering, surface and groundwater hydrology, watershed planning, surface water quality modeling, stormwater management, reclaimed water reuse, and urban and agricultural best management practices. He manages and conducts hydrologic and water resource investigations throughout the southeast and prepares watershed and water management master plans for urban, agricultural, and rural study areas.

SESWA is designed for local, state, and federal stormwater managers and regulators; developers and land use planners; civil and environmental engineers and landscape architects; environmental professionals and consultants; environmentalists and interested citizens. It offers networking opportunities, an exhibit hall that features the latest stormwater products and services, continuing education/professional development hours, a stormwater public education session and a service project during which Steve and Bob will volunteer.

SESWA was formed in 2005 to support stormwater professionals in the Southeast (focused on Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee, comprising USEPA Region IV) as they seek solutions to surface-water quality and stormwater-management challenges.
