Berth Refurbishment for Khalifa Port
Location: Khalifa Port, UAE
Client: China Harbour Engineering Company/Emirates Global Aluminium
Project Description: Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), one of the world’s largest aluminium producers, operates a dedicated berth at Jebel Ali where bauxite, alumina, coke, caustic soda and other materials are offloaded across two continuous gravity blockwork berths served by fixed-rail grab and vacuum unloaders. Since 2017, EGA had observed progressive damage to the capping beam and severe corrosion of the quay furniture, reaching a point where full replacement was the only safe option. ATM was appointed to design and support the replacement of the capping beam and all associated quay furniture—bollards, fenders, crane rails, ladders and mooring rings—while extending the 25-metre gauge landside crane rail beam to secure the facility’s long-term operations. ATM’s role included quay wall stability verification covering the existing precast blocks and new capping beam, design and construction of a new reinforced concrete continuous capping beam, detailed design and construction of the extended 25-metre gauge landside crane rail beam and the protection or relocation of existing utilities to enable the works.
