Engineering Analyses for Topside Loadout at Sohar Port

Project Description: L&T’s modular fabrication berth at Sohar Port was originally designed for a dredge depth of –10.0 metres CD, which was sufficient for its day-to-day scope, but not for the heavy-lift vessels needed to load out two of the largest topsides ever assembled at the facility: the 34,000-tonne CP8S and the 32,500-tonne CP4N. To unlock the berth for these operations, L&T appointed ATM to carry out a technical feasibility study of additional dredging and to verify that the existing piled jetty—including piles and sheet piles—would remain structurally sound at the deeper draft. The study confirmed the structural, geotechnical and operational viability of the works, giving L&T the engineering basis to proceed with confidence. ATM’s role included data collection and review, basis of design, structural verification of the existing piled jetty using PLAXIS 3D and STAAD Pro for both COMP-4 topside modules, precast sleeper design verification, soil bearing capacity assessment, jack-up foundation design, and a dredging assessment study.
