Loadout Design for Modular Fabrication Yard at Sohar Port
Location: Sohar Port, Oman
Client: L&T – Energy, Hydrocarbon Engineering Limited
Project Description: Loading out a 28,545-tonne topside and a 14,000-tonne jacket for North Oil Company’s Ruya PKG#12 development in Qatar’s Al-Shaheen field demanded absolute confidence in the berth structures at L&T’s Modular Fabrication Yard in Sohar. The skidded loadouts would impose some of the most onerous loads the 301-metre quay wall had ever seen. L&T appointed ATM to evaluate the existing quay wall’s capacity, recommend remedial measures, and engineer the loadout-support solution end-to-end, from structural verification and ground improvement to precast sleeper design and on-site construction support during the critical early works. ATM’s role included data collection and review, field-survey specifications, a geotechnical interpretative report, structural verification of the existing piled jetty using PLAXIS 3D and STAAD Pro, optioneering through concept and detailed design, precast sleeper design, a soil bearing capacity and ground improvement study, pile capacity assessment, construction supervision site visits, and design support during the initial stages of construction.
