Marc Gold, PE, CFM, and Fran Way, PE, CFM, (South Carolina) will present at the South Carolina Association for Hazard Mitigation (SCAHM) Annual State Conference in Clemson, South Carolina. The conference takes place March 19 through March 21, 2023.
Marc will present “The Use of Wave Trip Walls to Reduce Storm Vulnerability” on March 20 at 3:00 p.m. EST and “Keeping Pace with Development in Riverine Floodplains” on March 21 at 10:30 a.m. EST. Fran will present “FEMA Firm Appeal Case Studies and Scientific Resolution Panel (SRP) Experiences” on March 21 at 8:15 a.m. EST.
Marc is a professional engineer with ATM, a Geosyntec Company, and specializes in the analysis of processes along coasts and in wetlands and estuarine environments including sediment transport and nearshore hydrodynamics. His experience includes permitting, numerical modeling, statistical and time series analysis, and field-data collection. He uses his coastal engineering background to perform assessments and design of coastal structures, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood zone and risk analysis remapping, beach nourishment design and monitoring, and coastal conditions assessments for various coastal and waterfront projects.
Fran is a senior coastal engineer with ATM and has 24 years of experience in coastal, environmental, and water resources engineering. He applies his background in coastal and water resources to flood hazard risk assessments, wave and sediment transport modeling, beach nourishment, dredging and navigation studies, alternatives analyses, and shoreline stabilization projects.
The 2023 SCAHM conference will focus on activities that protect people and property from the impact of floods and storms; it will also address the importance of maintaining these core activities through comprehensive hazard mitigation efforts. The conference’s theme, “Making Mitigation Matter: From Mountains to Ocean,” highlights the state’s floodplain management, watersheds, municipal projects, grant funding, and overall resilience to hazards.
The SCAHM is dedicated to educating communities about hazard mitigation and loss prevention and is a chapter member of the Association of State Floodplain Managers, Inc., the association of floodplain managers in the United States.
