Project Description: AD Ports Group, in partnership with Unicargas and Multiparques, secured a concession from the Luanda Port Authority to transform the existing Luanda Multipurpose Port Terminal into a modern container and Ro-Ro/general cargo facility serving Angola’s primary commercial gateway. The upgrade will deepen drafts from 9.5 metres to 16 metres, modernise the marine and topside infrastructure and introduce new ship-to-shore and gantry cranes alongside advanced cargo-handling systems. MAR was awarded the marine works and entrusted ATM with the detailed design. This two-phase programme covers a refurbished container berth engineered to a dredge level of –16.0 metres LAT and a cargo/Ro-Ro berth maintained at –9.0 metres LAT, with a carefully designed transition between the two to maximise usable quay length. ATM’s role included demolition of the existing capping beam and landside crane rails, container berth quay wall design using a secant pile wall, landside crane beam and tie-rod design, cargo/Ro-Ro berth design combining sheet pile and secant pile wall systems with anchor wall and tie-rod design, quay and crane furniture details, tie-in structures, submerged berm design, and specifications. We also provided a full suite of coastal marine studies covering wave transformation, wave agitation, hydrodynamic modelling, dynamic mooring analysis, offshore metocean and water-level study and real-time navigation, as well as issued-for-construction drawings and documents.
